Settlement Summary
Walgreens, the American pharmacy store chain, agreed to settle a $100 million class action lawsuit related to its prescription drug pricing. The lawsuit alleges that Walgreens artificially inflated pharmacy drug prices by not considering the prices charged under its Prescription Savings Club. As a result, insured customers, patients, consumers, and insurers were said to have paid inflated amounts for necessary prescription drugs. Despite denying these allegations, the company has opted for a settlement. To potentially qualify for a payout from the settlement, an individual or entity must have paid for prescription drugs from Walgreens using insurance benefits at any point between January 1, 2007, and November 18, 2024. The settlement fund, totaling $100 million, will be distributed with 80% going to third-party payor claimants and 20% for individual claimants, after accounting for expenses such as administrative and lawyer fees.
