Settlement Summary
Vi Senior Living, a high-end senior living community with locations across the U.S., agreed to pay an undisclosed sum in a class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it failed to prevent a data breach in 2023. The breach exposed the personal information of numerous individuals, including sensitive data such as names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers, financial account details, and health data. The lawsuit claimed that Vi could have prevented the breach through reasonable cybersecurity measures, but neglected to do so. Despite not admitting any wrongdoing, Vi agreed to settle to resolve the issue. The settlement provides benefits to individuals affected by the data breach, which includes up to $1,500 in reimbursement for ordinary losses related to the breach, such as bank fees and credit-related costs. Those who experienced fraud or identity theft that could be traced back to the data breach may receive up to $5,000 for extraordinary losses. Additionally, all class members are eligible for two years of free medical identity theft protection and monitoring services. As part of the agreement, Vi also committed to improving its information security to better protect against future data breaches.
