Settlement Summary

TwinStar Credit Union, a financial institution with branches in Washington and Oregon, has agreed to a $1.75 million settlement in a class action lawsuit regarding allegations of unfair overdraft and nonsufficient funds (NSF) fees. The lawsuit was initiated by members who were charged multiple NSF or overdraft fees on a single transaction between February 25, 2015, and February 28, 2021, or those who were charged an overdraft fee for one-time, non-PIN debit card transactions that subsequently resulted in a negative balance. While TwinStar did not admit any wrongdoing, the decision to settle may prompt similar claims against other banks and credit unions. Under the settlement, eligible members will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund, the amount of which will depend on the number of participating members.
