Settlement Summary

System1, a marketing firm that owns multiple brands including antivirus software brands Total Security Limited, PC Protect, and TotalAV, agreed to settle a class action lawsuit by paying $2.5 million. This lawsuit arose from claims that the company enrolled consumers into automatic renewal subscriptions without their consent, causing financial harm. The plaintiffs accused System1 of not clearly laying out the terms of its automatic renewal subscriptions, in violation of regulations. The settlement benefits California-based consumers who were enrolled and charged for such subscriptions between October 20, 2019, and June 30, 2024, and did not receive a full refund. Though System1 did not admit to any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the case. The settlement allows class members to receive an equal share of the net settlement fund, though exact payment amounts will vary depending on participation numbers and the deduction of fees and other costs.
