Settlement Summary

The Quaker Oats Company found itself in hot water following a consumer food safety recall between late 2023 and early 2024. Several of its products, amongst them Chewy Bars, Granola, Oatmeal, Frito-Lay Chips and Snacks, Cap'n Crunch, were implicated in a potential Salmonella contamination. As a result, the company has agreed to a $6.75 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit charged Quaker Oats with employing deceptive marketing and labeling practices related to the recall, asserting that the company may not have adequately warned consumers about the potential Salmonella contamination. The settlement reached does not constitute an admission of guilt by Quaker Oats, but rather represents an effort to avoid the costs and uncertainties associated with a trial.
