Settlement Summary
Mattress Firm, a prominent nationwide mattress retailer, recently settled a class-action lawsuit amounting to $6.4 million in California, over allegations of deceptive discount advertising. The suit, filed by consumers who purchased mattresses on the company's website between August 1, 2020, and July 16, 2024, claimed that the company misled its customers by displaying exaggerated "original" prices crossed out next to the "sale" prices, creating a false illusion of higher discounts. These so-called "sale" prices were said to be the regular prices all along, potentially deceiving customers into believing they were receiving considerable deals. The settlement includes a total fund of $5,476,000, with $2,000,000 designated for cash payouts. Eligible class members will receive a $40 per mattress purchased in the form of store credit or cash payment if a claim form is submitted before August 5, 2025.
