Settlement Summary
Huuuge Inc., a major game developer known for their social casino apps, Huuuge Casino and Billionaire Casino, has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit for an estimated $4.3 million. The case stems from allegations of deceptive advertising and illegal gambling in the company's games. The mobile and online social casino games, while free to play, offer in-app purchases of virtual items which players can use to bet on digital slot machines, poker, blackjack, and other games. However, these virtual chips, purchased with real money, cannot be cashed out, leading to claims that the company was essentially operating illegal gambling games under California and Illinois law. Huuuge Inc. denies any wrongdoing but has chosen to settle the lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, eligible players who made any qualifying purchase of virtual items in Huuuge Casino or Billionaire Casino before January 23, 2025, will automatically receive at least 375 Virtual Diamonds for use in the games, with the possibility of receiving more depending on the conditions of the settlement. The payout will be in the form of virtual currency, highlighting the complicated nature of digital purchases in the gaming industry.
