Proof of repair should include a repair order, invoice, or other documents from the shop that completed the repair, clearly identifying the repaired or replaced components. If the truck is no longer owned and did not pay for a CP4 repair before the date of final approval, proof of sale instead of proof of repair is needed.
Settlement Summary
General Motors (GM) has recently agreed to a $35 million class action settlement pertaining to an alleged defect in the fuel injection pump systems of certain Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra diesel trucks. A number of these trucks were sold with CP4 high-pressure fuel pumps that are prone to catastrophic failure due to incompatibility with U.S. diesel fuel, which can lead to high repair costs for owners. The lawsuit, formally known as Chapman, et al. v. General Motors LLC, Case No. 2:19-cv-12333-TGB-DRG, involves owners who purchased these specific trucks from a GM-authorized dealer in California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania, or Texas between March 1, 2010, and September 13, 2024. The $35 million settlement fund will be divided into two parts; a $30 million Repair Fund for Class Members who paid for CP4 repairs out of pocket and a $5 million Former Owner Fund for those who no longer own their trucks and did not pay for a CP4 repair. Payouts from the Repair Fund could range between $6,356 to $12,712, while payments from the Former Owner Fund could range from $400 to $800, both depending on the number of valid claims. To potentially qualify for a payout, claimants must provide proof of purchase and proof of repair or sale of the truck.
