Settlement Summary
First Advantage, a major consumer reporting agency specializing in background screening, recently settled a class action lawsuit over alleged improper practices. The company was accused of running background checks on job candidates for potential employers without first obtaining proper authorization from those individuals. In a significant breach of privacy regulations, these actions reportedly took place between August 17, 2012, and November 20, 2020. Such actions are considered serious infringements on consumer rights and are strictly regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The lawsuit's settlement did not include a traditional monetary payout. Instead, First Advantage offered discounts on their "Instant Check" and "Resume Check" services and products, as well as nine free full file disclosures, to those impacted by these actions. Eligible class members may receive a $15 discount on both 'Instant Check' and 'Resume Check' services, along with full file disclosures that offer comprehensive background information on an individual. No claim form or proof is needed for affected individuals to avail of these benefits, as First Advantage is expected to issue notices and promo codes based on their internal database records.
