Settlement Summary
Enzo Biochem, a healthcare company offering diagnostic testing among other services, has agreed to a $7.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit surrounding a data breach that occurred in 2023. The plaintiffs in the case argued that Enzo Biochem failed to implement sufficient cybersecurity measures, resulting in a breach that put them at risk of identity theft and fraud. The settlement will benefit those whose personal information was potentially compromised in the breach and who received a notice from Enzo Biochem informing them of the potential risk. Under the terms of the settlement, affected individuals can claim up to $10,000 for documented losses related to the breach, such as unreimbursed fraudulent charges and identity theft expenses. Alternatively, class members who did not experience documented damages can instead opt to receive a pro-rated cash payment from the net settlement fund after all documented loss claims and credit monitoring payments have been made. In addition to the financial settlement, Enzo Biochem has committed to improving its data security to better protect consumer information, including implementing multi-factor authentication and encryption of consumer data.
