Settlement Summary

CertainTeed, a major building materials manufacturer, agreed to a settlement in a class-action lawsuit regarding its Horizon-brand roofing shingles. The lawsuit, filed by owners of buildings outfitted with these shingles between 1995 and 2010, claimed the shingles were defective, failed prematurely, and caused property damage. Despite not admitting fault, CertainTeed has agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to resolve the matter. The settlement offers significant benefits to affected property owners. They can receive replacements for damaged shingles, reimbursements calculated on a per square foot basis for the replaced areas of their roofs, and an extension of their existing CertainTeed Horizon warranties by five years. Class members may also be able to receive $40 per square foot for the replaced areas of their roofs. Reimbursement will be prorated based on the number of months they had CertainTeed shingles on their properties. The deadline to file a claim under this settlement is March 2, 2030.
