Settlement Summary
CDK Global, LLC and The Reynolds and Reynolds Company, two significant players in the auto dealership industry, have recently settled a class action lawsuit to the tune of $129.5 million. The suit alleged that these companies engaged in antitrust behavior by conspiring to charge unlawful prices for Dealer Management System (DMS) services and Data Integration Services. The purported price gouging resulted in more costly cars for American consumers due to the restriction of competition and lack of lower prices. The lawsuit's roots lie in violations of specific federal antitrust laws and state antitrust and consumer protection laws. The settlement amount is divided between the two defendants, with CDK agreeing to pay $100 million and an additional $250,000 for notice and administration costs, while Reynolds previously agreed to a payment of $29.5 million in 2019. To qualify for a payout, entities must be U.S. auto dealerships that purchased DMS services from either or both companies between September 1, 2013, and August 15, 2024. The exact payment will be determined by the number of valid claims and duration of DMS usage during the settlement periods. All claims must be submitted by January 9, 2025.
