Settlement Summary
Apple Federal Credit Union has agreed to a $2.5 million class action settlement over allegations that it improperly charged overdraft fees on debit card payments and ATM withdrawals. The suit, alleging breach of contract and violations of Regulation E of the Electronic Fund Transfers Act, qualifies individuals who had a checking account with Apple Federal Credit Union and were charged an overdraft fee between January 7, 2021, and March 31, 2024. Though denying any wrongdoing, the Credit Union has opted for settlement to avoid the potential costs and risks of a trial. As part of the settlement, payments or account credits will be distributed to eligible class members, and certain uncollected fees amounting to approximately $35,530 will be forgiven.
