Settlement Summary
Align Technology, a medical device company responsible for the Invisalign system of clear dental aligners, has agreed to a class action settlement of $31.75 million. The lawsuit claims that Align Technology violated antitrust laws by collaborating with SmileDirectClub, a teledentistry company that also sells clear aligners, to suppress competition in this niche market. This settlement will benefit individuals who purchased, paid for, or provided reimbursement for SmileDirectClub aligners between October 22, 2017, and August 18, 2022. Although Align Technology has not admitted wrongdoing, it has agreed to pay the settlement to resolve the allegations. The settlement will provide a cash payment to all class members, identified by SmileDirectClub’s records as purchasers. The estimated payment will be between $10 and $60 per class member, with the actual amount depending on the number of valid claims filed.
