Settlement Summary
Mitsubishi has reached an $8.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit centered around allegations of faulty airbag control units (ACUs) in certain models of their vehicles. The suit claimed that the ZF-TRW airbag control units used in particular models were susceptible to electrical overstress, which could lead to failure of airbags and other safety features during a collision. While Mitsubishi has denied these allegations, they have agreed to the multi-million dollar settlement to resolve the claims. Owners, lessees, and previous owners or lessees of specific Mitsubishi models, including the 2013-2017 Lancer, 2013-2015 Lancer Evolution, 2013-2015 Lancer Ralliart, 2013-2016 Lancer Sportback, and the 2013 Outlander, may qualify for a payout if they held the vehicle as of November 1, 2024. Those eligible for a payout from the settlement can potentially receive up to $250 per qualifying vehicle, with the possibility of additional payments if unclaimed funds remain. The deadline to submit a claim is May 8, 2026.
