Settlement Summary
Navvis and SSM Health, healthcare providers operating in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin, have agreed to a $6.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit relating to a data breach in 2023. The lawsuit claimed that the companies failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures, leading to a disastrous ransomware attack between July 12 and 25, which compromised sensitive patient information. The settlement benefits anyone whose private data was exposed during this period. Although neither Navvis nor SSM Health have admitted any wrongdoing, they've opted for a settlement to resolve these allegations. The settlement provides for reimbursement of ordinary and extraordinary losses incurred by the affected individuals due to the breach. Ordinary losses include bank fees, communication charges, travel expenses, and credit monitoring fees, up to $2,000. Extraordinary losses, such as those resulting from fraud or identity theft due to the breach, are compensated up to $5,000. Apart from these reimbursements, all class members are eligible for pro-rata cash payments from the settlement, the amount of which will depend on the total number of claims filed. Additionally, two years of free credit monitoring services are available for all class members. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for July 10, 2025, and claims must be submitted by July 7, 2025.
