Settlement Summary
United HealthCare Services, a division of UnitedHealth Group and the largest health insurance company in the US, has recently settled a $3.5 million class action lawsuit for alleged violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). The TCPA, a federal law enacted in 1991, restricts the use of automated phone systems, prerecorded voice messages, and other mediums for telemarketing purposes. The lawsuit claimed that United HealthCare Services placed artificial or prerecorded voice calls without the recipients' express consent, in relation to an Optum HouseCalls program that was unrelated to the recipients' personal UnitedHealthcare insurance plans. The total settlement amount of $3.5 million will be used to pay eligible class members, attorneys' fees, and other associated costs. Individuals qualify for the settlement if they received one or more of these unauthorized prerecorded voice calls between October 12, 2019 and February 10, 2025. The payout amount per class member is estimated between $50 and $125, and claimants must submit proof of their eligibility by providing the phone number that United HealthCare called.
